וַיִּכְבַּד לֵב (vayikbad lev) — "the heart became heavy." The root כָּבַד (kaved) yields both "heavy" (oppressive weight) and "glorious" (as in divine kavod). Pharaoh's heart-heaviness is a grotesque shadow of divine weightiness — stubbornness presenting itself where glory should be. Both translations use "heavy" to sustain this ironic echo threading through the narrative.
