אֵשׁ מִתְלַקַּחַת (esh mitlakachat) — "self-kindling fire / fire seizing upon itself." The hitpael of לָקַח (lakach = to take/seize) is reflexive: fire that perpetually feeds and renews itself. Ice and fire fused in supernatural union — the rabbis noted this as a miracle within a miracle. The theophanic resonance is unmistakable: fire is the element of divine presence (Sinai, burning bush, pillar of fire), here woven into an instrument of judgment.
