Two profound ambiguities converge. First, רַגְלָיו (raglav), "his feet," is ambiguous in referent (Moses's feet or the child's), and "feet" is a documented biblical euphemism for the genitals (cf. Isa. 7:20; Ruth 3:7)—suggesting the foreskin blood is applied to the organ of circumcision, either shielding Moses by proxy or completing the covenant mark. Second, חֲתַן דָּמִים (chatan damim), "bridegroom of blood," is a rare, possibly Midianite phrase: חָתָן (chatan) means bridegroom or son-in-law, and the blood likely refers to the circumcision blood sealing the covenantal kinship. Both versions render the phrase literally; F.O.G preserves its raw strangeness while F.O.G Message frames Tzipporah's declaration as directed at Moses.
