The Hebrew הַצֹּבְאֹת (ha-tsov'ot) is the feminine plural participle of the verb צָבָא (tsava), meaning "to serve, minister, or assemble in formation"—the same verb used of Levitical service in Numbers 4:23 and 8:24, and of military mustering elsewhere. These women are presented not as casual bystanders but as a recognised, established group with a defined role at the sanctuary entrance. Their donation of personal מַרְאֹת (mar'ot, "mirrors"—polished bronze discs used for self-reflection) to be melted into the laver carries profound symbolic weight: instruments of self-gazing transformed into the vessel in which priests wash for holy service. The F.O.G renders the verb "served" and the F.O.G Message "ministered," both capturing intentional, consecrated activity; the military overtone of tsava adds further honour, suggesting these women were "enlisted" in holy service rather than merely present.
