LeDashno ("for clearing its ashes," Heb. לְדַשְּׁנוֹ): The verb dashen (דָּשַׁן) derives from deshen, meaning both "fat" and "ash"—the rich, fatty residue left after a burnt offering. Clearing the altar was not mere sanitation but priestly handling of sacrificial richness; English "ashes" loses the connotation of abundant consumed fat embedded in the Hebrew root.
