Footnotes
Three colour terms carry distinct cultural weight. Tekhelet (תְּכֵלֶת) is a deep blue dye extracted from the murex sea snail — precious, sky-evoking, and associated with holiness and the divine presence in priestly garments. Argaman (אַרְגָּמָן) is royal purple, the colour of sovereignty and high station. Tolaath shani (תּוֹלַעַת שָׁנִי) is literally "crimson of the worm" — a vivid scarlet produced from the dried bodies of the coccus ilicis insect. F.O.G preserves the Hebrew terms to prevent these sacred colour-meanings from collapsing into generic English; F.O.G Message uses conventional colour names for readability.
