εἰρήνη carries the full semantic range of Hebrew שָׁלוֹם (shalom) — not merely the absence of conflict but covenantal wholeness, restored flourishing, and right-relatedness; F.O.G preserves "shalom" to signal this depth, while F.O.G Message uses "peace" and lets the covenantal trajectory of the passage carry the weight. The μεσότοιχον τοῦ φραγμοῦ (dividing wall of partition) almost certainly evokes the stone soreg balustrade in Herod's Temple separating the Court of the Gentiles from the inner courts, with inscriptions threatening death to any Gentile who crossed it — making the metaphor viscerally immediate for Paul's first readers.
