ἔθνη (ethne) means "nations" or "peoples" — the Greek equivalent of Hebrew גּוֹיִם (goyim), the standard Jewish designation for non-Israelite peoples. F.O.G renders "nations" to preserve both the Greek sense and the Hebraic resonance of the goyim/Israel distinction; F.O.G Message uses "Gentiles," the traditional English term carrying this meaning since Jerome. The appended χειροποιήτου ("made by hands") carries a deliberate sting — the phrase echoes prophetic critiques of man-made idols, subtly undercutting any pride in the physical mark.
