I looked again and saw something striking under the sun: the swift don't always win the race, the strong don't always win the battle, the wise don't always have bread, the clever don't always gain wealth, the knowledgeable don't always find favor — because time and chance come for everyone.
Again I turned and saw under the sun: the race does not go to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor wealth to the shrewd, nor favour to the skilled — for time and misfortune overtake them all.
I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
I saw something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong; neither is the bread to the wise, nor the wealth to the intelligent, nor the favor to the skillful. For time and chance happen to all.
