*Koach la'asot chayil* (כֹּחַ לַעֲשׂוֹת חָיִל)—'power to make *chayil*'—is the verse's quietly stunning claim. *Chayil* (חַיִל) most commonly denotes military valour or courageous force; it describes Boaz's character and Ruth's virtuous strength (Ruth 3:11). Translated 'wealth,' the word retains an irreducible echo of productive might and courageous effort. The verse does not dismiss human industry or enterprise—it insists that the very *capacity* for it is a divine gift, and that this gift is covenantal: YHWH gives this power specifically to confirm the promises sworn to Avraham, Yitzchak, and Ya'akov. FOG renders *chayil* as 'wealth' to honour the economic context; FOG Message uses 'ability to produce wealth' to hold the tension between human effort and divine gift.
