Footnotes
Four cultic structures are listed, moving inward from the most public to the most intimate layer of Canaanite worship. *Mizbḥot* (altars) are communal sacrificial sites. *Maṣṣevot* (standing-stones/sacred pillars) are upright stone monuments—honoured in early Israelite practice (Gen. 28:18) but condemned here as idolatrous. *Asherim* are wooden poles or stylised trees associated with the goddess Asherah, who in some Canaanite texts is paired with YHWH as His consort. *Pesilim* (carved images) are sculpted cult objects. The fourfold destruction command dismantles an entire worship ecosystem, not merely isolated objects. FOG uses 'sacred pillars' for *maṣṣevot*; FOG Message uses 'sacred standing-stones.'
