The word לֵחֹה (*leacho*), from the root לַח (*lach*, "moist, fresh, vigorous"), describes a life-force not yet sapped—the bodily freshness associated with vitality in ancient Near Eastern physiology. The LXX renders it as "his natural colour had not faded." The point is unmistakable: Moses did not die from decay. He did not fade—he was *taken*. This mirrors Caleb's later declaration (Josh. 14:11) and underscores that Moses' death was entirely an act of divine will, not human limitation. One hundred and twenty years structured in three symmetrical forties—Egypt, the wilderness, the forty years of leading Israel—gives his life a narrative wholeness that the Torah itself seems to honour. FOG renders the root sense with "vitality drained away"; FOG Message opts for "full strength undiminished" to sharpen the contrast with ordinary death.
