The phrase עַל־פִּי יְהוָה (*al-pi YHWH*, literally "at the mouth of YHWH") is one of the most evocative in the Torah. While it functions idiomatically as "by the command of YHWH," the image of the divine *mouth* invited early Jewish interpretation—especially in the Talmud (Bava Batra 17a) and later Midrash—to read it as a divine kiss: Moses dying with God's own breath upon his lips, departing not by disease or decline but by divine intimacy. This tenderness is consistent with the whole arc of Moses' life: the burning bush, the cleft of the rock, the tent of meeting where God spoke face to face. FOG renders the phrase with stark literalism—"at the mouth of YHWH"—preserving the image whole. FOG Message uses a dash to slow the reader before the final phrase, drawing out the weight of that intimacy.
