The verb פָּדָה (padah), 'to redeem,' is a commercial term for buying back a person or object — it carries the weight of ransom, of a price paid. YHWH is presented not merely as liberator but as redeemer who bore the cost of Israel's freedom. The memory of slavery is invoked not to produce shame but to generate structural empathy: you know what it is to be powerless and without recourse, therefore use your power to protect the powerless. This 'indicative-to-imperative' logic — what YHWH has done therefore what you must do — is the ethical heartbeat of Deuteronomy, and prefigures Paul's identical logic in Ephesians 4–5.
