The physical staging here is a dignified and deliberate act: the creditor — who holds real power — is made to wait at the threshold whilst the debtor controls the terms of surrender from within his own home. The house remains the debtor's sanctuary, inviolable even under financial pressure. This is covenantal power deliberately restrained: the law turns what could be a moment of humiliation into one of preserved dignity. FOG adds 'himself' to emphasise the agency the law returns to the poor man.
