Footnotes
יַד־יְהוָה (yad-YHWH) — 'the hand of YHWH' — is a recurring idiom of divine active power, most prominently in Exodus where it strikes Egypt (Exod. 9:3; 13:9). Here, with terrible irony, the same hand that delivered Yisra'el from Mitzrayim now turns against the faithless generation within the camp. The deliverer becomes the judge. FOG preserves the physical force of the idiom; FOG Message renders it dynamically as 'working against them' to convey its sustained, purposeful action over thirty-eight years.
