*Shavuot* (שָׁבֻעוֹת) means both 'weeks' and 'sevens,' a deliberate bilingual resonance that gives the festival its name. The counting (*sefirah*) that begins here became in later Jewish practice the Counting of the Omer—49 days of intentional anticipation culminating in Shavuot, when tradition holds the Torah was given at Sinai. The New Testament maps this identical 50-day structure onto the giving of the Spirit at Pentecost (Acts 2), making this harvest-counting deeply typological: from barley to wheat, from Sinai to the upper room, from law written in stone to Torah written on hearts. FOG preserves 'shavuot' to honour both the counting and the name; FOG Message uses 'weeks' for readability.
