Then they stepped forward and addressed the king about the decree: "Your Majesty, did you not sign a law stating that anyone who makes a petition to any god or man within thirty days — other than to you, O king — shall be thrown into the lions' den?" The king answered: "The matter is fixed — the law of the Medes and Persians cannot be revoked."
Then they approached and spoke before the king regarding the royal decree: "Did you not sign a decree that any man who petitions any elah or man within thirty days — except you, O King — shall be thrown into the den of lions?" The king answered: "The matter stands firm, as the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be revoked."
Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
Then they told the king, “Daniel, one of the exiles from Judah, shows no regard for you, O king, or for the decree that you have signed. He still makes his petition three times a day.”
