עִיר (ir, plural עִירִין irin) is a distinctly Aramaic term for a class of angelic being found in Second Temple literature (1 Enoch, Jubilees) and exclusively in Daniel within the Hebrew Bible; the root suggests a "wakeful, vigilant one." The phrase עִיר וְקַדִּישׁ (ir ve-qaddish) may be a hendiadys — one being described from two angles — or two distinct figures. F.O.G preserves the technical angelological term "Watcher" to honour the specificity; F.O.G Message adds "heavenly sentinel" to contextualise the term for modern readers while retaining "Watcher."
