חִדֶּקֶל (Hiddeqel) is the ancient Semitic name for the Tigris, identified as one of the four rivers of Eden in Gen 2:14 — a detail that quietly frames this visionary encounter within sacred geography. FOG preserves the Hebrew name; FOG Message uses the familiar Greek/English "Tigris." The timing — the 24th of the first month, just after Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread (14th–21st) — likely explains the quality of Daniel's mourning: Israel's redemption under Cyrus had not fully materialised.
