Ashmat Shomron ("the guilt/sin of Samaria") is almost certainly a polemical title — either for the golden calf at Bethel (compare Hosea's derisive "Beth-aven," house of wickedness, in 4:15) or for the Asherah pole in Samaria's royal shrine. "The way of Beersheba" (derekh Be'er Sheva) refers to a southern pilgrimage route — ironically, into Judah — where northerners swore devotion, mixing apostate northern cult with patriarchal memory (Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob all encountered YHWH at Beersheba). Both oaths are false worship dressed in the grammar of covenant loyalty, and both are answered with the same irreversible verdict: fall and never rise.
