Footnotes
סְרֻחִים (s'ruchim) is not merely "reclining" — its root carries the sense of overflowing, spilling over, draping in excess. These figures are not resting; they are oozing with self-indulgence. The word recurs in verse 7, binding the portrait of luxury to its consequence. מַרְבֵּק (marbeq) specifically denotes a fattening pen — calves reared for slaughter by those with resources to spare.
