This verse crackles with wordplay. לֹא דָבָר (Lo-Davar) is both a real town in Gilead (cf. 2 Sam 9:4–5; 17:27) and the phrase "not a thing / nothing." קַרְנָיִם (Karnaim) is both a town in Bashan and the word for "two horns" — the ancient symbol of royal and military power. The F.O.G preserves the place names to honour the historical setting (Jeroboam II's military campaigns) while the footnote surfaces the wordplay; the F.O.G Message renders it directly — "Nothing" and "Horns" — so modern readers feel the satirical sting the original audience caught instantly.
