Footnotes

πορθήσας (porthēsas) is military vocabulary meaning "to ravage, sack, lay waste"—the language of an army destroying a city. This is the same word Sha'ul uses of himself in Gal 1:13 ("I was ravaging the assembly of God") and Gal 1:23, so Luke's choice is precise and historically grounded. FOG uses "ravaging" to honour this violent force; FOG Message uses "destroy" to convey the existential threat he had posed.
