σικαρίων (sikariōn) — "Sicarii" — from the Latin sica (a short curved dagger), referring to a specific faction of Jewish revolutionary assassins who concealed daggers beneath their cloaks and killed political enemies in crowds. Josephus records an Egyptian false prophet who led a movement to the Mount of Olives c. AD 56 (Jewish War 2.261–263), which the tribune conflates with the Sicarii. The F.O.G. preserves the Greek term as a proper faction name; the F.O.G. Message renders it as "Assassins" to convey the violent connotation to modern readers.
