This verse contains one of the NT's most striking Christological statements. The majority text reads "the church of God which He obtained through His own blood" — attributing blood-shedding directly to God. Some scribes softened the text to "the Lord" to ease the tension. τοῦ ἰδίου ("His own") may additionally function as an intimate title for the Son — "through the blood of His Own [One]" — a usage attested in early papyri, though "His own blood" is the most natural reading. Either way, Luke here ascribes divine identity to the crucified One. ἐπίσκοπος ("overseer," v.28) and πρεσβύτερος ("elder," v.17) are used interchangeably throughout this address, indicating a single office in the Ephesian church.
