therapeuetai — the root of our word "therapy," used in pagan temple practice for tending a deity's image: feeding, clothing, bathing the god. Paul radically inverts the entire structure of religion: this God does not receive — He gives. pnoēn — "breath" — an unmistakable echo of Gen. 2:7 where YHWH breathed the breath of life into Adam's nostrils. Paul is retelling the creation narrative for a Greek philosophical audience.
