A genuine manuscript variant lies here: some texts read "etrophophorēsen" (He carried/nursed them, as a nurse carries a child—echoing Deuteronomy 1:31 LXX), while the preferred critical text has "etrophorēsen" (He endured/put up with them—echoing Numbers 11:12). The F.O.G follows the "endured" reading to accent Israel's obstinance and God's patience; the F.O.G Message uses "bore patiently with them," which bridges both readings.
