Herod had been nursing a fierce, sustained grudge against the people of Tyre and Sidon. But they came before him as a united front; having first secured the goodwill of Blastus, the king's private chamberlain, they appealed for peace — for their lands were wholly dependent on the king's territory for food.
Now Herod was locked in a bitter feud with the people of Tzor and Tzidon. But they came before him as one, and having won over Blastus — the king's personal chamberlain — they sued for peace, for their region depended on the king's territory for its food supply.
And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king's country.
Now Herod was in a furious dispute with the people of Tyre and Sidon, and they convened before him. Having secured the support of Blastus, the king’s chamberlain, they asked for peace, because their region depended on the king’s country for food.
