David's description of Ish-Boshet as *ish tzaddik* ('a righteous man') is morally striking—spoken of a political rival against whom David had every reason to bear grievance. This is not sentiment but principle: David has consistently refused to profit from the blood of Saul's house (cf. 1:14–16; 3:28–29). The verb *darash* ('require / seek / hold accountable') is a legal-theological term—YHWH or king as the one who demands blood-accounting. It echoes Genesis 9:5, where YHWH declares He will *darash* the blood of every person slain. David's justice is grounded in the cosmic order, not personal advantage.
