"The appointed time" translates הַמּוֹעֵד (*ha-mo'ed*) — the very word used for Israel's sacred festival assemblies (Leviticus 23). Its use here is arresting: YHWH's judgment, like His worship, operates on *mo'ed* — a divinely fixed appointment. The mercy that cuts the plague short at the "appointed time" frames even the darkest moment in the language of divine festival-keeping: judgment is bounded by grace on a schedule only YHWH controls.
