This public anointing (*mashach* מָשַׁח) is David's second — Samuel's private consecration (1 Sam. 16:13) being the first; the third and final will come when all Israel crowns him at Hebron (2 Sam. 5:3). The triple anointing pattern is not incidental: ancient Near Eastern kingship required layered, progressive installation. The location also carries freight — Chevron/Hebron is the burial city of the patriarchs, tying David's kingship geographically to the Abrahamic covenant. FOG preserves "Chevron" to keep that territorial resonance; FOG Message reads Hebron, but the typological arc — a king anointed progressively, first by a remnant, then by a nation, then in full glory — points forward to the Messianic King whose own anointing follows the same pattern.
