But the people said, 'You must not come out with us. If we flee, they won't care. If half of us die, they won't care — but you are worth ten thousand of us. It is far better for you to stay in the city and be ready to send us reinforcements.'
But the troops said, 'You must not go out! If we flee, no one will care about us; even if half of us die, no one will care — but you are worth ten thousand of us. Now it is better that you be ready to help us from the city.'
But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but now thou art worth ten thousand of us: therefore now it is better that thou succour us out of the city.
But the people pleaded, “You must not go out! For if we have to flee, they will not care about us. Even if half of us die, they will not care. But you are worth ten thousand of us. It is better now if you support us from the city.”
