David divided the army into three groups: one third under Joab, one third under Abishai son of Zeruiah — Joab's brother — and one third under Ittai the Gittite. Then the king told them, 'I will march out with you myself.'
Dawid sent out the troops in three divisions: a third under Yoav, a third under Avishay son of Tzeruyah, Yoav's brother, and a third under Ittai the Gittite. The king said to the troops, 'I myself will march out with you.'
