The narrative's cruelest irony: Uriyah carries his own death warrant. He is the trusted courier of his own destruction, loyal to the last to the very man orchestrating his murder. The phrase 'by the hand of Uriyah' (*b'yad Uriyah*, בְּיַד אוּרִיָּה) is the narrator's quiet indictment — David exploits Uriyah's fidelity as the instrument of his execution. The integrity so honoured in verses 9–13 becomes the very mechanism of his death.
