"βεβαίαν" (bebaian) is a legal term for a guaranteed, binding confirmation — a surety that cannot be voided. It implies not that election is uncertain in itself, but that diligent practice provides its experiential assurance. "πταίσητέ" (ptaisēte) means to stumble or trip — the image of a traveller on a difficult road who, by walking wisely, keeps their footing all the way to the destination.
