There is a textual tension here: 2 Chronicles 22:2 gives Achazyahu's age as forty-two, which would make him older than his own father (Yehoram died at forty, per v.17). Most text critics regard "twenty-two" as original and "forty-two" as a scribal corruption in Chronicles. The note about Atalyahu's lineage — granddaughter of Omri — is the narrator's way of marking the continued infection of Yehudah's royal house by the northern dynasty's spiritual toxin, setting the stage for the catastrophe of chapter 11.
