Chazael reports only the hopeful word; he omits the death oracle entirely. This selective truth is the first act of treachery. The reader, armed with Elisha's full word, watches the lie being seeded. "Certainly recover" (*chayoh tichyeh*, חָיֹה תִחְיֶה) uses the doubled infinitive absolute for strong affirmation — the same grammatical form as "you shall surely die" in Bereshit 2:17. Life and death are bound in identical syntax, separated only by one man's deliberate silence.
