The royal officer on whose arm the king leaned turned to Elisha, the man of God, and scoffed: 'Even if Yahweh threw open the very floodgates of heaven, could this ever come to pass?' Elisha answered, 'You will see it with your own eyes — but not one bite of it will pass your lips.'
The shalish on whose arm the king leaned answered Elisha, the man of Elohim, and said, 'Even if YHWH were to open the sluice-gates of the skies, could such a thing happen?' He said, 'You will see it with your own eyes — but you will not eat from it.'
Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.
But the officer on whose arm the king leaned answered the man of God, “Look, even if the LORD were to make windows in heaven, could this really happen?” “You will see it with your own eyes,” replied Elisha, “but you will not eat any of it.”
