The word *lechem* means bread — the foundational covenant provision. Its total absence fulfils Deuteronomy's siege-curse with terrible precision: 'You will eat the fruit of your womb... in the siege and distress with which your enemy will oppress you' (Deut. 28:53). FOG renders *lechem* as 'bread' to preserve that covenant-provision weight; FOG Message uses 'food' for natural readability.
