The name *Menashe* (Manasseh) derives from the root *nashah*, meaning 'to cause to forget' — deeply ironic for a king whose reign would cause Yisra'el to forget YHWH entirely (cf. Gen. 41:51, where Yosef names his son Menashe because Elohim made him forget his suffering). His mother's name *Hephtzibah* means 'my delight is in her' — a name later reclaimed by Yeshayahu as a title for the restored land (Isa. 62:4), so its appearance here in the shadow of apostasy quietly haunts the text. Both translations retain the names, but the theological irony is encoded in the naming itself.
