This is the chapter's most morally complex verse. Hezekiah's response has been read two ways: as humble, magnanimous acceptance of divine sovereignty ('Your word is good — even in judgment'); or as troubling self-centredness ('The disaster falls after my death, so I can live with it'). The narrator does not editorially condemn him, leaving evaluation to the reader. The Chronicler adds that Hezekiah's heart was proud in this period, though he later humbled himself (2 Chr. 32:25–26). FOG retains *shalom* untranslated to carry its full covenantal freight — wholeness, flourishing, well-being — beyond mere tranquillity; FOG Message renders 'peace and security' to surface the self-protective dimension of his relief.
