He works from a personal encounter with Jesus first, then draws on the scholarship of respected Jewish and Christian scholars — because the church was Jewish before it was anything else, and those roots change everything about how you read Scripture.

Footnotes

The fall of Samaria (722–721 BCE)—completed under Sargon II, who finished what Shalmaneser V began—marks the end of the northern kingdom. The deportation to Halah, Habor, and Media was a deliberate Assyrian strategy of ethnic dispersal. Geographically, this is an undoing of the Exodus: the movement is reversed, from the Promised Land back into imperial captivity. These scattered peoples become the 'ten lost tribes.' FOG uses transliterated place-names; FOG Message uses traditional English forms.
