The contrast is implicit but powerful. Achaz, who stripped YHWH's House to purchase Assyrian protection and demoted YHWH's altar to a private divination tool, is succeeded by Chizkiyahu—one of Yehudah's greatest reforming kings, who will reopen the Temple, restore covenant worship, and trust YHWH alone when faced with the same Assyrian threat his father feared (2 Kgs 18–19; Isa. 36–37). The narrative quietly sets up one of Scripture's most profound father-son contrasts: Achaz buys security through apostasy and loses his kingdom's soul; Chizkiyahu risks everything on YHWH and receives a miracle.
