ἄνεσιν (anesin), from ἀνίημι, "to loosen" or "let up," describes the relief of tension being released — like slackening a bowstring. FOG renders it "relief" (the removal of pressure) while FOG Message uses "rest" (its experiential outcome). The paired antithesis ἔξωθεν μάχαι, ἔσωθεν φόβοι — "outside conflicts, inside fears" — is rhetorically compressed, echoing the psalms of the beleaguered righteous (cf. Psalm 55:4–5).
