συνέχει (synechei) is a powerful verb meaning to hold together, grip, or constrain—used of a crowd pressing in (Luke 8:45) and a fever seizing a patient (Luke 4:38): not motivational influence but a controlling, irresistible force. ἡ ἀγάπη τοῦ Χριστοῦ is grammatically ambiguous—Christ's love for us, or our love for Christ—but the grounding in His death in v. 15 strongly favours the former.
