He works from a personal encounter with Jesus first, then draws on the scholarship of respected Jewish and Christian scholars — because the church was Jewish before it was anything else, and those roots change everything about how you read Scripture.

βήματος (bēmatos) was the raised stone platform from which a Roman magistrate pronounced official verdicts—the same word used of Gallio's seat in Corinth (Acts 18:12), where Paul himself had once stood. FOG's "tribunal" preserves the legal-political weight. φαῦλον ranges from "trivial/worthless" to "morally bad"; FOG's "worthless" stresses that deeds done outside Messiah contribute nothing of eternal weight; FOG Message's "evil" sharpens the moral polarity.
