εὐχαριστίαν ('thanksgiving') carries the same root as the word 'Eucharist.' Paul envisions a cosmic liturgical dynamic: apostolic suffering produces grace, grace multiplies through more and more people, and multiplied people produce multiplied thanksgiving (εὐχαριστία) offered to God's glory — suffering is not merely endured but rendered liturgically fruitful.
