He works from a personal encounter with Jesus first, then draws on the scholarship of respected Jewish and Christian scholars — because the church was Jewish before it was anything else, and those roots change everything about how you read Scripture.

*Tukkiyyim* (תּוּכִּיִּים) — a hapax legomenon appearing only here and in the parallel 1 Kings 10:22, of wholly uncertain origin. It may derive from an Egyptian or Tamil loanword for peacock, or may denote baboons or another exotic creature. The full cargo roster—gold, silver, ivory, apes, peacocks—reads as a literary inventory of the world's wonders converging on Jerusalem. *Tarshish* (תַּרְשִׁישׁ) is likely a far western Mediterranean port, possibly Tartessus in Iberia, representing the very edge of the ancient world. Together the passage anticipates Isaiah 60's vision of the nations bearing their finest to Zion.
