Burial 'in his own house' (rather than in the royal tombs of the City of David) may reflect the disrupted status of a king who had been exiled and restored. 2 Kings 21:18 specifies burial in 'the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza,' suggesting a private estate rather than the dynastic necropolis. Whether this is a mark of ambiguity about his legacy or a practical consequence of his complicated reign, Chronicles records it without comment. The brevity of the transition — one line from a fifty-five-year reign to his successor — is itself a kind of judgment.
